About 5 years ago, Jenelle Reed noticed a need. She felt the desire to help out other single parents such as herself. No matter what your circumstances, parenting can be tough on many days. However, single parents often face additional challenges such as financial difficulties, a lack of support, and even loneliness. While attending a class for her church, Jenelle's pastor reached out to her and asked her if she would be interested in organizing a dinner for single moms. That event would eventually end up being the springboard for what is now known Single Momz Rock, a local support group whose motto is supporting and encouraging single moms.
I recently had the honor of sitting down with Jenelle Reed and Jenifer Campbell, Single Momz Rock team leader, to learn about all of the great work their organization is doing.
Community Events
Single Momz Rock is all about lifting up their fellow moms. They hold regular resource nights where moms are connected with the many local resources that are available in the area. They have an event coming up later this month that will provide advice for certain legal struggles such as custody and child support. They also meet regularly for a book study. Both of these events include free dinner and childcare.
These ladies also know how to have fun. Their most popular event is their Valentine's Day Dinner. On this night, moms gets to take the night off and enjoy a formal meal and the company of friends. They also hold an annual Mother's Day event when moms and the kiddos gather for a day of fun together. Such events allow moms to enjoy holidays that they might have otherwise spent alone. This summer they will also be holding their 3rd annual Back to School Bash. They hope to bless 300 families with supplies for back to school along with free haircuts and shoes.
A Network of Hope
Single Momz Rock is non profit and they provide all of their services free of charge which means everything they do must be sponsored by outside help. Jenelle shared that the community has been overwhelmingly supportive over the years and that they have been the recipient of many generous donations. These donations have allowed Single Momz Rock to bless many moms in need. Most notably, they were able to assist in being able to gift a used car to a local mom in need.
