What we love about Mr. Nick's Inclusive Playground:
In October 2020, an inclusive playground at McBride Elementary in Springfield was opened to honor the legacy of Mr. Nick, a beloved special education teacher at the school who passed away unexpectedly in 2018. A blue sign welcoming everyone expresses the purpose of the playground - "all abilities, all together". The playground accommodates children of all abilities, so they can experience the joy of play inclusively with their peers.
Amenities at Mr. Nick's Inclusive Playground:
You'll find an innovative and interactive space to play at Mr. Nick's Inclusive Playground! The playground is special needs accessible and offers a flat, level surface ideal for wheelchairs. The rubber and turf surfaces are maneuverable for strollers and wheelchairs. The playground is designed for children ages 5 through 12, but our toddler thoroughly enjoys the playground, too!
When planning a visit, please keep in mind that it is located at a school. Plan your visit during non-school hours.
Adjacent to Mr. Nick's Inclusive Playground, you'll find the McBride School-Park, which offers picnic tables, a small covered pavilion, a small playground ideal for toddlers and preschoolers, restrooms, a water fountain, paved walking trails, a soccer field, and a disc golf course.
